“Hey, there. It’s Nisa. I’m a play scholar in computational culture and bioethics. Simply put, I think about why people play with software – which includes what makes a meaningful video game design. But my journey to studying play was serendipitous. I hold an undergraduate degree in the laws of England and Wales as well as a master’s in Malaysian healthcare and medical law. Much of the hypotheticals I grappled with in the classroom were big questions with real-world stakes.
Growing up in multicultural Kuala Lumpur, I noticed a disconnect between different intellectual traditions and, rooted in justice, I wanted to make philosophy more accessible to younger people worldwide. So, here I am, proudly at Philosium. I’m also a professional member of The Association for the Study of Play (presenters of the Brian Sutton-Smith Awards). I hope you’ll come to enjoy philosophy too, in all its flavours.”
