Maddison Campbell

I am studying Bachelor of Arts majoring in both History and Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame Australia, with a particular interest in epistemology and the question of how we come to know reality, both through human experience and in relation to truth as it exists beyond us. Outside of philosophy, you will be finding me drinking a ridiculous amount of coffee, buying books, reading the as they are indeed seperate hobbies, doing visual arts or playing my violin or napping.

My philosophical interests sit at the intersection of epistemology, metaphysics, phenomenology, philosophy of language, aesthetics, and ethics. I am especially interested in questions of truth, being, and knowledge: how reality is disclosed, how it can be known, and how human understanding relates to what is independent of us.

My approach to philosophy draws on both analytic and continental traditions, with a particular interest in bringing their different methods into constructive dialogue. I am especially interested in the nature of persons, knowledge, recognition, and the relationship between mind, world, and truth.

Alongside philosophy, I am engaged in public speaking and leadership development through Toastmasters, as well as mentoring and student leadership within the student association of Notre Dame Sydney (SAUNDA) as the 2023 Arts and Sciences Representative, 2024 Academic and Welfare Director and both 2025 and 2026 Philosophy and Theology Representative in addition, as the previous treasurer and previous president of The Society of Philosophy and Theology Notre Dame, a society I had to revive and form a brand new full committee for and in turn, succeeded in doing. I am also interested in the possibilities of a future career in academia, research, libraries, archives, and the broader humanities.

Ultimately, I am interested in philosophy as a disciplined pursuit of truth, one that seeks to understand reality carefully, rigorously, and honestly.
